In a short span, a saintly traveler passed through that place. Having quenched his thirst, he joyfully asked, “What do you wish for?” Noor-e-Hayat extended his hand, and another zero was added to his fortune. Now, he earned a daily interest of a thousand rupees. As days passed, his circumstances changed dramatically, and he became immensely wealthy. He generously contributed to the well-being of the community, especially by blessing the previously barren well.

A few months later, the initial ascetic returned, the one who used to provide water to travelers. People asked, “Where is the benevolent soul?” They were informed, “Oh, respected one! He left his charitable work and is engrossed in his business.” The command came to take me to his abode.

Upon reaching, it was evident that his wealth had altered him significantly. He gestured, “Show me your hands!” When he extended his hands, the saint removed one zero. After losing the zero, the daily thousand rupees he used to receive ceased, for the original benefactor was the one who bestowed existence upon the zeros.

 

Unparalleled and beyond comparison, the love for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) unites us all. And the prayers, fasting, pilgrimage, charity, and other acts of worship are zeros. Their true value is only realized when they are coupled with the one—love for the Prophet (peace be upon him). Without it, they become worthless, no matter how numerous they are. May Allah safeguard our well-being. Amen and amen, O Lord of all worlds.
