In a distant kingdom, three friends found themselves entangled in the perplexing web of singlehood, unable to secure the joys of matrimony. In a bold move, they decided to approach the kingdom’s monarch, presenting him with a request to arrange their marriages. The king, intrigued, agreed but laid down a unique condition—an ordeal that would determine the fate of their unions.

The monarch explained that a trial had to be endured by the friends, and the outcome would dictate the nature of their marriages. Success would lead to a union with a beautiful maiden, while failure would result in weddings with less fortunate and less attractive partners.

Without hesitation, the friends accepted the challenge. They were ushered into a pitch-black room, where complete darkness engulfed them. They were informed that they would remain in this room for a month, living on limited provisions and surrounded by the constant threat of stepping on scattered papads (crispy Indian flatbreads).

In this confined space, they had to manage their sustenance, sleep, and avoid stepping on the strategically placed papads, ensuring their feet remained unscathed. The test aimed to assess their patience, resilience, and ability to navigate challenges.

The first nine days passed without incident. The friends adhered to the rules, surviving on the meager provisions and meticulously avoiding the papads. However, on the tenth day, disaster struck. One of the friends accidentally stepped on a papad, triggering an immediate response from the vigilant guards.

The friend was promptly removed from the room and ushered away for a wedding with a less-than-ideal partner. The remaining two friends, undeterred, continued with the trial. On the twentieth day, another misstep occurred, leading to the expulsion of the second friend, destined for a similar fate.

The final friend persevered, completing the trial unscathed. As a reward for his resilience, he was granted the privilege of marrying a beautiful young woman. Overjoyed, he began a new chapter in his life, reveling in the happiness that had long eluded him.

The Twist in the Tale
As the victorious friend enjoyed his marital bliss, he couldn’t help but share the tale of his unusual courtship with his new wife. Intrigued, she listened intently, and when he concluded, she took a deep breath and confessed, “We, too, were three friends confined in a room. One day, my foot accidentally stepped on a papad, and the rest is history.”

The husband was left in awe, realizing that the seemingly arbitrary test had connected their fates. The revelation underscored the interconnectedness of their lives and the whimsical nature of destiny.
