The minister was asked by King Whakat: Why are these employees of mine happier than I am? whereas neither they nor I are lacking anything. The minister mentioned: Try using law number ninety-nine on one of your servants, King Salamat. The king inquired, This law number ninety-nine, then, what is it? The minister mentioned: Put ninety-nine dirhams in a jar, write that a gift of one hundred dirhams is for you, and King Salamat will knock on the door of a servant’s house at night, hide, and watch the spectacle.

The keeper knocked on the door and began secretly watching the spectacle after the king did as the minister had explained. After bringing Sarahi out of the building, the maid returned to her home. It turned out that the number of dirhams was ninety-nine, whereas the note stated that it was one hundred dirhams. Thought: There must have been a dirham missing somewhere. The servant and his entire family ventured outside to begin their search for dirhams. This search consumed his whole night. Khadim’s rage was palpable, and while some nights were spent with patients, others were spent frustrated.

Because they were unable to locate dirhams, Khadim also referred to his wife and children as lazy. When this employee went to work in the palace the following day, he was depressed, his eyes were burning, he was irritated with his job, and he looked depressed. The king was aware of the meaning of the law of ninety-nine. The ninety-nine blessings that Allah Ta’ala has bestowed upon them are often forgotten. In addition, they devote their entire lives to seeking this one blessing that they would not have received otherwise.

Allah does not have to do a lot to grant something that has been stopped for a reason. People live their lives depriving themselves of the pleasures of the ninety-nine blessings they already have in order to find the one thing they lack. Be a grateful servant by taking advantage of the blessings you have received, and accepting the favor of Allah Tabarak and the All-Powerful. May Allah transform us into His devoted servants.
