Renowned writer Ashfaq Ahmed recounts an incident that occurred at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium during a concert by an Indian singer. The event, featuring dance and music, invited notable personalities from Pakistan. The humility of the guests was evident as they refrained from alcoholic beverages, while Pakistani film actors danced alongside the Indian singer, creating a memorable experience for the audience.
Several distinguished politicians, actors, intellectuals, and prominent figures from Pakistan were present at the ceremony, which had strict security arrangements. Even the acclaimed philosopher Ashfaq Ahmed received an invitation. However, upon arriving at the Gaddafi Stadium, Ashfaq Ahmed realized he had forgotten to bring his invitation. He approached the security personnel, explaining the oversight and requesting entry. To his surprise, not only did the security staff deny recognition, but they also physically removed him, stating that everyone claims to be a famous personality. They instructed him to leave and focus on his own work.
Ashfaq Ahmed, feeling disheartened by the incident, questioned why such treatment was meted out to him. He lamented the lack of recognition, causing him distress throughout the night. The next morning, when he read the news, he discovered that the ceremony had celebrated India’s victory in the Kargil War. The Indian singer had danced and rejoiced on the news of Pakistan’s withdrawal from Kargil. The entire night, Pakistani women danced and humiliated the nation.
